Hope for Home Carol Singing!

Carol Singing

carols 08

December 17th and 20th 2008 were cold but – thankfully - dry as Sarah assembled a choir of willing about 16 volunteers for an evening  and a morning of carol singing in and around Blackheath Village.

The youngest volunteer was about  two months old and the oldest over 60. They were all in fine voice and were accompanied by Tom on the cornet, and by young people playing flutes.

They visited approximately 40 houses on the evening of 17th, and sang a wide range of traditional carols during the space of two hours. This was Hope for Home’s second official fund-raising event,  (the first was carol-singing in December 2007), and as a result of this effort, £360 was collected – for which we are all extremely grateful.

Perhaps even  more importantly, however, this was another opportunity for us to raise more awareness of the charity within the local community of Blackheath. We were able to distribute a large number of leaflets and were greatly encouraged by the level of interest that these generated.

We hope very much to continue the tradition and have already received an offer by some members of the Lewisham Choral Society to join us in our efforts for Christmas 2009.

Volunteer Evening

On September 23rd 2008, Sarah hosted an evening with a group of volunteers who had expressed some interest in helping to develop Hope for Home, with our Trustees.

After a short presentation by Thelma, Adrian and Sarah, the volunteers were invited to ask questions and talk about their own experiences caring for their loved ones at home.  There was a rich and interesting exchange of stories and experiences and the evening resulted in several volunteers offering to give their time and energies to help the charity to achieve its objectives.

We are very grateful for the support we have received so far from our committed volunteers and we look forward to a long relationship with them. Additional volunteer help is always welcome  - for further information about how you might help Hope for Home, please contact us.
