JAZZ STAR JACQUI DANKWORTH IS HOPE FOR HOME’S FIRST PATRON
We are delighted to announce that jazz sensation Jacqui Dankworth is Hope for Home’s first patron.
Daughter of jazz legends Dame Cleo Laine and the late Sir John Dankworth, Jacqui has been labelled “one of our finest singers, regardless of category.” A gifted musician as a child, she has a string of critically acclaimed albums and is now touring the UK with her band.
Jacqui Dankworth said: “I’m delighted to be a patron of Hope for Home. Helping people with dementia and their families to live a fulfilling life, in their own homes, is hugely important. It’s one of the biggest challenges we face.”
“Many people with dementia want to stay at home as long as possible. With advice and information from Hope for Home, more and more people can do this,” she said. “So I’m very proud to be part of such a great cause.”
Jacqui began her career as a successful actress with the Royal Shakespeare Company and the National Theatre. She became a West End Star in hit shows like My Fair Lady and Sondheim’s Into the Woods. Clearly someone born to sing, she then signed as a full-time recording artist.
After forming innovative jazz groups and singing alongside the likes of Courtney Pine, Jacqui released her first solo album in 2003. Her solo projects include a mix of her own compositions, jazz standards and contemporary songs.
Jacqui, more than most, knows that older people can still live life to the full. At the age of 82, with Sir John battling serious illness, her parents performed together on stage and drew huge cheers from the audience.
Jacqui’s UK tour currently runs until the autumn. For tour details, visit www.jacquidankworth.com Look out for more from our new patron on the Hope for Home website in the next few weeks.
