ElderCare Week 2010
This week is the start of ElderCare Week 2010 (6-12 September). This year, the theme is ‘Everybody needs to know about ElderCare options’.
ElderCare Week, run by the charity Counsel and Care, will highlight a lack of information for older people about the care and support system.
This shortage of information is exactly what Hope for Home is trying to address. We echo the call for more accessible information and advice about social care.
Counsel and Care’s Chief Executive, Stephen Burke, said: “ElderCare Week is designed to raise awareness of the challenges many of us will face when we need care. There needs to be more clarity about care options.”
“We’re asking for those interested in organising events to get behind ElderCare Week now,” he added.
If you want to arrange an event to highlight ElderCare Week and raise money for Hope for Home, we’d love to hear about it. To help you out, you’ll find all kinds of material on the Counsel and Care website. You can also find details of their free helpline. Visit www.counselandcare.org.uk
On 8 September, Counsel and Care will hold a debate on social care and the Older People in the Media Awards. They will also host the Graham Lecture, this year delivered by the writer and broadcaster Denise Robertson. For tickets, email Maureen.Jackson@counselandcare.org.uk
